Recently, our team connected with officials at the White House to discuss the best way to leverage WeVideo’s vast education network to build awareness of the White House Student Film Festival. We are enthusiastic about the event and proud to be offering our support to the fest organizers by reaching out to the numerous talented student filmmakers using our video creation platform.
The White House Film Fest was launched last year in parallel with President Obama’s ConnectED initiative, whose aim is to empower K-12 students and teachers through digital literacy projects and improved access to technology. The cloud collaboration capabilities and robust privacy protection of our platform make WeVideo ideally positioned to serve President Obama’s vision for education and his private-sector innovation priorities, including the creation of quality digital educational content and exposing student to global opportunities with new technology.
The White House Film Fest is open to US-based student filmmakers in grades K-12. The theme for this year is The Impact of Giving Back. The organizers encourage students to draw on their life experiences to tell stories “about paying it forward, about community service, or what making a difference looks like.”

Notably, in addition to YouTube submissions, the White House has agreed to accept WeVideo links so long as those are “public” (i.e. don’t require a WeVideo account to view). The official entry form must be filled out by a teacher or another adult.
The White House Film Fest organizers are hoping to receive a lot more than last year’s 2,500 entries.
