In 2023, Indiana University rolled out a new strategic plan with a goal to increase online engagement in academic programs by 2030, which included career-aligned certificates and micro-credentials. Daniel Janicki, instructional technologist at Indiana University, was tasked with building “programs of scale” that would boost the attraction, enrollment, service, and graduation of more students. Additionally, courses needed to be eight weeks long, fully asynchronous, and have the ability to get high enrollment.
