An educator I talked to last year told me: “My students love WeVideo, but I wish the internet speed at my school was faster so they wouldn’t have to sit and stare at the ceiling while waiting for each file to upload”. She wasn’t alone. During our many conversations with educators last year, we learned that waiting takes up a lot of time when using cloud-based tools. We already spend a lot of our lifetime waiting, so we figured that we had to do our part to fight this big time waster. So today, we are happy to share some new WeVideo magic with you: Select your files on your computer, click upload and start editing! No waiting for the files to render or upload, just jump right into your creative project before your mental storyboard gets distracted.
Classroom benefits
You might have noticed a different icon when importing your files to WeVideo. Fear not, it does not mean that you have to learn how to use WeVideo all over again. It simply means that this new amazing feature is added to your editor and that you can access your local files right after selecting them for import. The files will upload in the background while you and your students collaborate on the next masterpiece. So “what’s the catch” you say? There is no catch. But there are so many benefits!
Immediate benefits include:
- Zero downtime at the start of a project helps with classroom management. Kids can be engaged immediately without distractions while waiting for media to upload.
- Dramatically reduces prep time for teachers who no longer have to pre-load media during off hours.
- Greater creative spontaneity since there is no waiting to jump in when inspiration occurs in the classroom.
This first-of-its-kind feature is already available to all WeVideo subscribers and works on all local sources accessed from laptops or desktops.
